Cross-Border project

Ferney-Voltaire

The Genève 2030 conurbation project is a cross-border planning process. It identifies strategic development projects (PSD) in order to reinforce and balance metropolitan functions. The Ferney-Voltaire / Grand Saconnex PSD is a cross-border project that seeks to balance employment and housing objectives on both sides of the frontier, improve accessibility, and increase densification and urban renewal. Laid out in terraces to either side of the airport, the municipalities are interlinked by a dense hydrographic network and a concentrated public transport axis.
A general guide plan translates these orientations which are implemented in accordance with operational town planning procedures specific to each side of the frontier and in line with given situations.
In Ferney-Voltaire, the project is based on what already exists, being the lanes criss-crossing the gardens of the Voltaire chateau and the age-old oaks. The intention is to construct an active edge, a landscaped district and begin the renewal of a retail park located on the edge of the town.
In Grand Saconnex, the project continues the construction of this active edge to express the scale of the airport and the town centre, recycling the earth excavated for the construction of a motorway tunnel and using it to construct a sports park able to answer the needs of the metropolis, as well as nearby public spaces and a new housing offer.
