Les Halles

Paris 1er

The work on the underground spaces of the Forum form part of the general intentions governing the urban project and extends the continuities to be established with the Canopée, the patio, the park and the transport spaces. In this underground complex, unique in Europe in terms of its depth and the number of people using it, the reconfiguration of the vertical circulation areas and malls is dictated by the routes to be taken as well as by the spatial and architectural characteristics of the site. The intention is to provide better communications with transport spaces by creating new accesses or by extending existing accesses and improving their functionality by grouping together three modes of movement – staircases, escalators and lifts. As well as these practical aspects, there will be qualitative improvements brought about by the opening up of spaces, increased natural lighting and an adaptation of spatial and architectural ambiances. To this end, emphasis is placed on the use of pale coloured and transparent materials alongside fluid layouts favouring user comfort in these restricted spaces.
